About Me:

Hi there! My name is Harley and I blog over at Harley and Jane. My friend Jane and I started blogging about two years ago when we realized that we probably wouldn't live down the block from each other forever. The blog keeps us updated on each others lives and makes us talk more than we ever would other wise. Now that she lives in Logan, Utah and I live in Chicago, IL it is the glue that holds us together. We blog about journaling, fashion, cooking, our lives, pretty much whatever suits our fancy that day. We blog to capture those brief moments of loveliness and beauty that surround us.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

Hope to me is a brightness. I think this quote from The Great Gatsby sums it up perfectly "Reserving Judgement is a matter of infinite hope." How beautiful are those words? Hope is to give people the benefit of the doubt. To trust others. To let yourself be swept away by an idea.

How do you live your faith? 

I think that I live by faith everyday when I wake up in the morning. To be happy requires faith. To choose to look for the best in this world is to attribute both the good and bad in life to some divine plan. I work in advertising which is a extremely creative field. I feel that using creativity daily also allows me to live my faith because I think we have a Heavenly Father that wants us to create. I think the most fulfilling thing in this life is creating a family. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be able to do that one day. I also live my faith by being kind. Often there just isn't enough of that in the world.

I am a thirty-something wife and mother of four little ones. I have degrees in Marketing and Finance from Texas Tech University. I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors (as long as it's not in 100 degree heat), and blogging over at The Mrs. & The Momma about my personal style, my babies, and our crazy happenstances with a family of six.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

Hope to me is intertwined with faith, which is hoping for things unseen.  Hope is seeing the glass half full.  Hope keeps me going when part of me wants to be a pessimist.  I hope for all the dreams I have to come true...for my children to be righteous individuals, to be a blessing in others' lives, for my family to be healthy, and that my family and I can and will be blessed for keeping the commandments.   

I hope for an eternal family.

How do I live my faith?

I live my faith both in the home and at church. At home, I fulfill my responsibilities of teaching my children the ways of the Lord, and being a faithful wife and supporter to my husband. We say family prayers together each and every day. We read our scriptures as often as we can. We designate Monday nights as "Family Night," where my husband and I lead our family in learning more about the gospel of Jesus Christ....this involves singing, games, story-telling, scripture reading, and usually a yummy treat! At church I work with the children in primary.  I enjoy serving the children in this capacity and feel grateful for the opportunity to aid in bringing up our little ones in faith.

I AM A MORMON MONDAY: MEET PAOLA

I am a wife to a very handsome man, a mom of an energetic little flirt, a dedicated, loving, committed friend and an individual that knows that faith can move mountains. I am a social butterfly, a great Colombian cook, I am an individual that feels honor to serve and love others. I am a fun kind-hearted gal, I am a MORMON! 

ABOUT ME

I could probably write a book about my unique life, but I'll do my best shot to make it short... Hey I can talk and talk and talk for hours. I was born and grew up in Bogotá, Colombia ( South America ), and yes,  I have an accent and a lot of people have compared me with Sophia Vergara's personality. A little sweet and corky! I was raised by an incredible loving mom and a very social and talented father who sacrificed the best they had to give me a good education and a comfortable life. 

I learned about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2001 during an open house of the Temple in Bogotá. I remember entering and thinking that I was in the most beautiful and peaceful place in the world. I felt purity, love, a feeling I never felt before...my life was never the same after that day, I knew I wanted to learn more and I didn't want that wonderful feeling to go away.

 After getting baptized in 2002 my life took a 360. To make the story short and not get into too many details, my family's life was in danger and we had to leave everything behind to protect our lives from a terrorist group that decided to threaten our family. To avoid risks,my parents had to rush our way out of the country. I was in school in class and the next thing I was hiding in the back seat of a car on my way to the airport. No goodbyes, there was no time to take it all in, everything happened too fast.

 I said goodbye to my parents and didn't know if that was the last time I will see them again. I was only 15 years old!  All of my goals, my dreams, everything had vanished and we moved to the United States with nothing, as a refuge of the USA, and had to start all over again. I remember that feeling.. it was like leaving the perfect life, closing your eyes and waking up in a strange place. 

I knew I could never go back and didn't know what to expect and what was ahead.

Years passed, and we learned how to live and cope with this event. I was a Catholic before getting baptized, but regardless of my religious background my parents made sure that we knew and loved Christ, and taught us to have faith. I became inactive, in a different country, not speaking the language, without any friends and with a new identity, what do you expect? Even thought my life was a little  complicated at that time, I always loved the gospel and regardless I kept my baptism covenants and tried my best to live a righteous life. Believe it or not, I attended more than 12 different religious groups and meetings for 3 years, but I never felt like l was in the right place.  When I turned 21, I started feeling empty hearted, I knew that spiritually I was missing something and started searching and attending a non denominational christian church, I really enjoyed the meetings, but I still felt like my heart was not where it belonged.

My life took another 360 degree turn when I met a new family that consisted of two brothers and a sister ( Herman, Carlos and Carolina) who just moved from Colombia, best part is, they were LDS(Mormon). I started attending their ward and became active again. 

I felt extremely happy and complete when I walked in that church building for the first time. 

But regardless of all the obstacles in my life I never lost faith, never forgot who I was, an important daughter of Heavenly Father, and never doubted for a minute that there was always a TOMORROW, a tomorrow to be better, to improve and succeed. All that pain that I endured was the best blessing I could ever asked for, it made me who I am today. I am a strong kind hearted woman who loves others unconditionally and is always willing to listen and help. These events shaped my character and through them my testimony grew so strong and it continues to grow today.

Two months after returning to church my parents moved and we were all reunited. Big YAY!  The best part was that I met an incredible man, who didn't care or was scared about my past. A man who took my heart, melted it with love and took my hand in marriage. I have an amazing husband, and incredible in laws!  We celebrated our 6 year anniversary just this past May and now have a gorgeous, incredible fun 2 year old boy. 

I can tell you that life cannot be better! I have no regrets, no sorrow, no why's, all I can say is thank you Heavenly Father for every blessing that I have and for making me learn the hard way. I love myself and who I am and always look forward to defeating any challenges.

 IT'S NOT THE DESTINATION THAT YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS INTERESTED IN, IT'S HOW YOU MAKE THE JOURNEY! 

So I feel like you don't know me that well yet, yikes, this defeats the whole purpose!!! I love dancing. I'm known for shaking my hips like there is no tomorrow. My favorite workout is Zumba, I love fashion ( just started a new blog (Fit Fun & Faithful), I love cooking and inviting friends over (I like decorating the table and plates, my friends get a 5 star treatment when I have them over for dinner) 

I love camping, shopping, traveling, making jewelry, socializing, movies and new adventures. I'm a very easy going person that is always in the mood to laugh and have a good time. But what I love the most is spending time with my family and creating beautiful memories. 

WHAT IS HOPE AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE FOR?

I am in between the walls right now, I think because of all the life events I had to endure my definition of hope is very different and unique. Hope for me is knowing that there is always a tomorrow, knowing that here are better things to come and never giving up and dream big. Hope is knowing that there is a Father in heaven that wants the best for us. A Father that loves us unconditionally and that He has not placed us on this earth to fail.. in the contrary, to succeed and be the best we can be!  I like to be sarcastic and say with a little of tuff love! He knows us better than we know ourselves and that is the reason why we need to put all of our trust in him regardless of the situation.

I don't know what to hope for. Uh thats a bad thing to say, nutty me! I live day by day counting my blessings and trying to be the best person that I can be.  Oh... and needless to say, I hope to always be kind hearted and the best example for my children to follow.  Wow that's a big expectation!!! 

HOW I LIVE MY FAITH

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, very hard question! I know I am not perfect in anyway, but I'm conscious that I can live my faith by example.  I live my faith by serving and having compassion for others needs and  feelings and trying my best, with realistic expectations, to help them in any way I possibly can. I live my faith by trying to have a Christlike attitude.

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Sarah

About me:

Hi! I am Sarah Kolar. I live in Utah County, Utah. I love where I live. I love the mountains, the diversity of people, & the fact that there is so much to do here. I love running, although you wouldn't know it with how slow I am and the fact that I would rather eat a cookie ;). I have been married for 6 yrs to my husband, Shawn. I am a full-time mom to 2 beautiful kids, Charlotte, 1 1/2yrs, and Ryan, 6 weeks. I also work full time as a dental hygienist in Salt Lake City, I love everything about my job. It's hard to work and be a mom & wife, but it's well worth it. 

Why am I Mormon?

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because after deep and humble prayer in many situations in my life, The Holy Ghost has born witness to me that what I have studied, read (The Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine & Covenants, & The Pearl of Great Price) is true and that the principles of which I live by are true. Some of these situations are: dealing with death of a non-member grandparent, reading and finishing The Book of Mormon, miracles of watching a nephew be healed, etc. I can't imagine not having the knowledge that I have about this life and not being LDS. 

What is hope? And what do I hope for?

My favorite definition of hope is from a book called, "I Hope You Dance", by Mark D. Sanders & Tia Sillers. It's a beautiful book. It says, " What is hope? To want? To desire? To expect that what's envisioned may indeed happen? YES to all the above. Is hope that gun feeling that it's worth holding out and hanging on just a little longer? ABSOLUTELY. Is hope the core of the human condition? CERTAINLY. Can you have hope without faith and humility and wonder? THAT'S TOUGH. Just the thought that there's something bigger, something truer, something totally surprising out there waiting for us is... priceless. What would you be without hope growing deep in your bones, thriving in every inch of you? NOTHING. What does it take to hope? Hope takes never ceasing to be amazed...wearing your soul on your sleeve... Holding your breath, waiting to hear "I love you, too..." Believe that tomorrow could be better than today... that you'll get a second chance... that you'll make a difference... that you matter." 

I hope for the good things in this world. That people are better than they seem. That my life, through the way I am living, will influence someone else for good. 

How do I live my faith?

I live my faith by befriending and serving individuals as much as I can. I want people that know me to want to get to know the Savior better. Through prayer and listening to the spirit, I try to be guided in who I can help by just listening, offering advice, serving them, or letting them know that they are important. Through my job as a hygienist and a mom, I have these opportunities everyday. I love when President Ezra Taft Benson said, Those who love the Savior " Not only would...die for him, but more importantly they want to live for him."

Sunday Inspiration

I testify that God’s grace is sufficient. Jesus’ grace is sufficient. It is enough. It is all we need. Don’t quit. Keep trying. Don’t look for escapes and excuses. Look for the Lord and His perfect strength. Don’t search for someone to blame. Search for someone to help you. Seek Christ, and, as you do, I promise you will feel the enabling power we call His amazing grace. It is wonderful. It is powerful, and it is constant.

Sunday Inspiration: The Hope of God's Light

Many of us have wondered if God knows us or if He even exists. Todd was someone who made fun of people who thought God was real, and he wasn’t surprised when he didn’t get an immediate answer to a prayer. But could God be giving us small but obvious answers? And how patient do we need to be to get those answers?

A Commandment with Blessings

From the days of the Old Testament, the Lord has commanded His people to build temples-sacred structures where He could teach, guide, and bless them. For example, the Lord told the Israelites to build a portable tabernacle that would be their temple while they traveled in the wilderness (see Exodus 26-27; 40:35). Additional Old Testament references to temples are found in 2 Chronicles 5:1-14; 7:1-2 (Temple of Solomon) and Ezra 3:1-13; 6:3(Temple of Zerubbabel).

The Lord told the Israelites to build a portable tabernacle that would be their temple while they traveled in the wilderness  (see Exodus 26-27:40:35).

 

When Jesus Christ was on the earth, the only existing temple was known as the Temple of Herod. Jesus was often found in this temple (see, for example, Luke 2:40-49; Matthew 21:10-14).

After the rejection and deaths of Jesus's Apostles, there were no temples on the earth for many centuries. When the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored in the early 1800s, the Lord again commanded His people to build temples (see D&C 88:119; see also section 95). The earliest temples of the restored Church were built in Ohio, Illinois, and eventually in Utah. Today, the Church has 140 operating temples around the world. Regardless of the place or time period, temples are the most sacred place on earth-a place where earth and heaven meet and where we feel close to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Did You Think To Pray?

Prayer. It's such a simple principle right? But sometimes its so difficult. Sometimes we may forget to pray, we get "too busy" to pray, we don't feel worthy enough to pray, we don't know what to pray about. I have dealt with all of these reasons at some point in my life or another. Whatever the reason might be, we should "pray always" no matter what the circumstances may be. The words Did You Think To Pray come from a beautiful Hymn that I love so much.

In the lyrics of the Hymn, it follows a very simple pattern. It suggests situations in our daily lives, then asks the question that occurs in the second line "Did you think to pray?" We should engage in prayer every morning as the day begins. In Mark 1:35 we read of Jesus that, "Rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed." In this as in all other things He is our best example. We sometimes find ourselves too "busy" to pray, but who could have been more busy than Jesus in those three rushed years of ministry? On some occasions Jesus was too busy to even take time to eat!(Mark 6:31) But I seriously doubt that He neglected prayer. On the night before He called the apostles, He even spent the entire night in prayer.(Luke 6:12) If Jesus himself being perfect needed daily prayer, how much more do we need daily prayer? He set such a great example. I think about that all the time.

 Jeremiah told us that "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning."(Lamentations 3:22-23) That "loving favor" is present every morning when we awaken, and is ready to meet whatever challenges the day may bring us. 

We need to take up the shield of prayer every day, and the sooner the better. The mind itself is a constant battlefield, and the sooner we take the offensive, the more likely we are to have the momentum of battle in our favor for the day. At the end of the great passage on the "Christian armor," Paul tells us that the first duty of the armed Christian soldier is, "praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance."(Ephesians6:18) Also in Colossians 4:2 it echoes the thought: "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." There is no better way to start the day, than by presenting ourselves for duty in the Lord's service and asking Him to bless our day that is before us!

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Elisabeth

Oh hey! My name is Elisabeth and I am from a small town in Idaho called Sugar City. (Adorable, right?) I am a Public Relations major and I hope to be a social media marketer. Basically, I want to get paid to tweet. I blog over at Imma Walking Fashion Crime. I originally started my blog so I could post about fashion. I haven't had anyone to take pictures for me recently so it's started to become more of a lifestyle blog. I blog because I love writing. I love words and I love expressing myself through my blog.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

I believe that hope is the ability to believe. You know that there are better things to come and that you have the potential to change whatever circumstances you may be in. I also believe that hope is happiness. Without hope, there is much darkness and uncertainty. I hope for happiness. It is a constant and consistent battle. I don't always feel happy and there are days when I have to say to myself that everything will be okay. I hope for love. Every kind of love. Brotherly/sisterly love, love for my enemies and love for my neighbors. Love is the key to unlocking hope and softening your heart towards others. 

How I live my faith:

I live my faith by being myself. The love I have for my Savior, Jesus Christ is ingrained in my heart and I show others that love by simply being me. I bear my testimony whenever I can. When I was in high school, I was friends with a girl who wasn't affiliated with any religion. I really liked her and we were really good friends. One day at lunch she very bluntly told me that she thought being a mother was a worthless cause. I was so shocked that I told her that I believed that being a mother was one of the most sacred, beautiful, and amazing opportunities you could ever have in life. Bearing testimony of Jesus Christ is how I live my faith.

Special Day

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to attend my friend Ayesha's baptism. 

What a special day it was!

I met Ayesha a little over a year ago when my Husband's best friend recommended her to work with me. From the moment I met her, I knew in my heart that we would be the best of friends. I know and believe that God sometimes will put people in your life for a reason and I feel exactly that way about her. I have cried with her, laughed with her, and have grown so close to her over this past year. I am grateful for her sweet spirit and her true friendship. She is caring, selfless, funny, outgoing, and gives the best hugs ever!!

One day, just before I was leaving to met up with her to work an event, I felt a very strong prompting by the Holy Ghost to give her a copy of the Book of Mormon. So I ran upstairs, grabbed an extra copy, cut a big red rose from one of the rose bushes in our backyard and headed out the door to meet her. When we met up, I handed her the Book of Mormon with the rose placed on top. I remember telling her that I felt like I needed to give the Book of Mormon to her and then continued to share with her how much I treasure the Book of Mormon and how much it changed and continues to change my life daily. I have learned that when you feel a prompting from the Holy Ghost, don't doubt it, but act on it. I know I have probably missed so many opportunities because I haven't acted on certain promptings that I have received. She took the Book of Mormon and for months it just sat on her shelf in her room. During these months, she went through a really rough time in her life, one of the worst times in her life as she describes it. One day as she was sitting in her room, she looked over and saw the Book of Mormon. She walked over and decided to pick it up and read it. I remember that night like it was yesterday. I was working an event with Josh. I went to check my phone and I had a long message from her talking about how she was reading the Book of Mormon and that she really loved it. My heart dropped and I started jumping for joy (literally) as I was slurring my words telling Josh what had happened. From there on out, she started texting me some of her favorite scriptures, which then led to her meeting with the Missionaries, which then led her to finally getting baptized!! Waaahhhhhooo!

I enjoyed her baptism so much, not only because I am so happy for her and the path that she has chosen, but it brings back SO many sweet memories of when I was baptized just 4 years ago. The spirit was so strong at her baptism and I do not have the words to even describe just how she looked when she came out of the water. She was glowing and smiling ear to ear!

"I just remember how I used to feel. I felt like nothing. I would wake up every morning wishing I could just go back to sleep and never wake up. As I stood up and spoke after my baptism, I felt so incredibly happy but also unbelievably sad that I ever felt that way about myself. I am so grateful that I don't have those feelings as a burden anymore. I never have to go back to feeling that way" I just feel like this is the end of all my sadness.  I just feel so peaceful and enormously happy! It's so freaking rad!! I can't describe it. I love how I feel. I never want to feel that way I used to ever ever again"

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Madeline

My name is Madeline & I am married to my Canadian sweetheart Tyler! I started my blog, Mr. & Mrs. Vance, to document all of the exciting adventures with my husband during these first few beautiful years of marriage. (It’s not all rainbows and roses though) I didn't know if I would stick with it or not, but I have ended up just LOVING to blog! It’s my little outlet and I love the friends I have made. 

What is hope and what do you hope for?

I like to think that hope is similar to faith. Hope is a feeling of trust and the desire for a particular outcome. My hopes are simple: I hope to better myself in this crazy life, I hope to be a mom, I hope to spend my life serving, I hope for years ahead full of laughter, family trips as well as spending it by my husband’s side. I hope to have a life revolved around the gospel, my family, and love.

How do you live your faith?

I think the best way that anyone can live their faith is by example. Live your faith by the way you walk, talk and dress. Speak kindly of others, do good. Invite others to feel the same joy you do. These are all parts of living by faith. I work everyday on living by faith, and not by fear. Above all, I live my faith through love.

Listening To...

The Mortal Christ, is one of the most rewarding CD'S, that I have ever listened to. It is very well discussed, and very easy to listen to and understand. This talk is given by Jack R. Christianson who has an incredible knowledge of the scriptures and testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Christianson explains the importance of getting to know Him and teaches us that we, like Christ, should seek to please the Father, help others live the gospel, pray more earnestly, live the gospel daily, and follow the promptings of the still, small voice. Any who wish to strengthen their own relationship with the Master should definitely listen to this. It has edified me, strengthened me, has made me laugh, and has increased my love for the Lord even more.

 Hello! I'm Jessica. I am a married college student living in Colorado. I'm studying communications and I love anything that has to do with marketing and social media. I'm also a blogger, a jewelry designer, a business owner, an avid DIYer, a friend, a sister, and a daughter of God. 

 What is hope and what do you hope for? 

    I think hope is everything good that this life consists of. You can't see it, but it more powerful than the winds of the earth. I did not grow up with an LDS faith, but it has brought me more hope than anything else in the world. I have lots of friends who share my faith and I have many friends who do not and I think that we all look for hope in similar ways. We start each day in an effort to find this hope... to have good days, to find happiness, to live a happy and long life with our families. I hope for a long life of this so-called hope. I hope to find joy in everyday that I live and that I can share that joy with others. 

 How I live my faith

 Love, hope, and faith. Above all in life, I try my best to just love others. I think love gives people a hope that can't be achieved by anything else. Through love and hope, we can have faith that all things will work out and that happiness is indeed possible. I truly believe that if we try to see and love others just as our Heavenly Father does, that we can discover amazing things and we can bring lots of light and happiness to others.
