I Am a Mormon Monday

My name is Madeline & I am married to my Canadian sweetheart Tyler! I started my blogMr. & Mrs. Vance, to document all of the exciting adventures with my husband during these first few beautiful years of marriage. (It’s not all rainbows and roses though) I didn't know if I would stick with it or not, but I have ended up just LOVING to blog! It’s my little outlet and I love the friends I have made.

What is hope and what do you hope for?
I like to think that hope is similar to faith. Hope is a feeling of trust and the desire for a particular outcome. My hopes are simple: I hope to better myself in this crazy life, I hope to be a mom, I hope to spend my life serving, I hope for years ahead full of laughter, family trips as well as spending it by my husband’s side. I hope to have a life revolved around the gospel, my family, and love.

How do you live your faith?
I think the best way that anyone can live their faith is by example. Live your faith by the way you walk, talk and dress. Speak kindly of others, do good. Invite others to feel the same joy you do. These are all parts of living by faith. I work everyday on living by faith, and not by fear. Above all, I live my faith through love.

I also want to say thank you to the beautiful Kimberly for asking me to be featured on her lovely blog! What a great opportunity this was, thanks again!

XOXO,
Madeline

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Ashley

My name is Ashley and I blog over at The Power of One Girl (link). I have competed in nine different pageants and never took the crown, it was after the last pageant that I realized I was never meant to win, it was all about the journey. After trying to please and impress judge after judge, I came to the realization that Christ was the only one I ever need to please. Now I'm making it my life mission to empower girls to have strong self esteem through being comfortable in their own skin as they get on the journey to draw closer to Christ. I love speaking to young women groups about this message as well as writing down my life lessons and adventures. I am a Mormon because this gospel brings me a sense of peace and hope that can't be imitated. I am forever changed day by day through this gospel.

How do you live your faith?
I live my faith by striving to focus on my Savior daily. Christ-like attributes are something I strive to live my life around. The more I focus on humility and integrity, two attributes Jesus Christ was perfect at, the more my I draw closer to Christ and my confidence grows. As I devote my life to the will of my Heavenly Father, I find a greater sense of peace and happiness that can't be found anywhere else in this world. Making my faith part of my every thought, every word, every action, and every aspiration is what draws me closer to my Savior and builds a greater strength in my life that I would be lost without.

What is hope to you?
Hope to me is believing things will get better and work out when you are at your lowest point. Hope is moving forward and always believing there is room for self improvement. Hope is the desire and expectation that promised blessings will come. Hope is the belief that Christ is always there and He will carry you through the difficult times in your life.

I hope to get married and become a mother. I hope to make an impact on teen girls and the way they feel about who they are and what they look like. I hope to make every day of my life a day for self improvement and becoming my absolute best self. I hope for success, happiness, love, and many opportunities to give of myself and serve others.

Sunday Inspiration

I testify that God’s grace is sufficient. Jesus’ grace is sufficient. It is enough. It is all we need. Don’t quit. Keep trying. Don’t look for escapes and excuses. Look for the Lord and His perfect strength. Don’t search for someone to blame. Search for someone to help you. Seek Christ, and, as you do, I promise you will feel the enabling power we call His amazing grace. It is wonderful. It is powerful, and it is constant.

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Kaycee

A little about me! I live in Scottsdale, AZ for half of the year, and Oakland, CA the other half. My husband plays baseball for the Oakland Athletics, and we are a busy, traveling baseball family. Our life is pretty crazy [understatement], but we have been immensely blessed [also an understatement].

I was raised Mormon, but spent the majority of my young adult life away from the church. After getting married, my husband and I decided to start going to church. We weren’t like many of the stories you hear, where things were going terribly wrong, we had hit rock bottom and we needed to find something more. In fact, it was pretty much the complete opposite. Our life together was amazing, we had all we needed, and were very blessed and happy. Needless to say, we began going to church anyways and found exactly what we didn’t know we were looking for.

Being Mormon has brought nothing but happiness to my life. Following the teachings of Jesus Christ fills my life with joy, and helps me to have a long-term outlook on the day-to-day aspects of my life. I have never been happier than when I am living my life in a Christ-like way, and am so grateful for this church and it’s teachings in my life.

What is hope and what do you hope for?
For me, hope is the desire for something to happen. What do I hope for? Oh goodness. I might need the next 2,375 blog posts to answer that question! I think what I hope for most is complete happiness in my life. For a happy marriage, happy children, and to bring happiness to everyone that crosses my path.

How do you live your faith?
I am not the type of person to hand a Book of Mormon out, or talk a lot specifically about my faith (unless of course someone asks!). I would like to think that I live my faith my living a good, Christ-like life and by being an example to those around me. Whether it’s helping someone in need, or simply being a good friend. I have been SO blessed by this church and am so grateful for it in my life.

FRESHLY PICKED MOCCS

Look. At. These. Moccs. Aren't they THE cutest shoes you have ever seen?!?! I was so excited, as was E when these arrived in the mail from Rachel at Freshly Picked

Susan Petersen (Owner) started making baby moccasins in 2009 after becoming frustrated by the lack of well-designed baby shoes. Using her second child, Gus, as a mocc-tester, and a bag of scrap leather she picked up at a yard sale, she began experimenting with designs. Working at her kitchen table, on a shoestring budget, Susan persisted through some disastrous attempts until she had created a pair of moccasins that not only looked adorable on Gus’ chubby little feet, but stayed on his feet as well. Since then the moccasins have gone through about six design changes. Each change has perfected the look and the fit of the soft-soled shoe. The moccasins you purchase today are durable, well designed, and most importantly: stay on your child’s foot. Money was tight at the time Susan started and in order to earn money to start her business she got resourceful. Her brother owns a window installation business and in the summer of 2009 she convinced him to let her keep the old windows that he was removing from the houses. She spent a whole summer banging the glass out of the windows because they were encased in aluminum frames. At the end of the summer she took the aluminum window frames to the scrap yard and recycled them to get money. She made $200 dollars and with that literal sweat equity, she started her business. Each pair of moccasins, whether being shipped to the rich and famous (or at least their kids), or shipped across town, are made with care, perfection and a love for the little feet they are intended for.

Freshly Picked has a wide variety of moccs to choose from. I decided to go with this rose gold color which is to die for! The first words out of E's mouth when she took them out of the bag was "Ohhhh Mama! They are SO beautiful!!!" (hugging them up against her little face) These moccs literally look and feel as smooth as butter! E's words were "They feel like slippers! Can I sleep with them too?!?!"
Well...I didn't let her sleep with them, but ever since we got them these are the only pair of shoes that she wants to wear.

SAFE HARBOR.

“Be assured that there is a safe harbor. You can find peace amidst the storms that threaten you. Your Heavenly Father—who knows when even a sparrow falls—knows of your heartache and suffering. He loves you and wants the best for you. Never doubt this. While He allows all of us to make choices that may not always be for our own or even others’ well-being, and while He does not always intervene in the course of events, He has promised the faithful peace even in their trials and tribulations.”
-Joseph B. Wirthlin

Jesus comforts us when He said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not
as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Draw close to the Lord Jesus Christ. He bears a special love for all those who suffer. He is
the Son of God, an eternal king. In His mortal ministry He loved them and blessed them. His every word
was one of compassion and encouragement. To the sick, He brought a healing balm. Those who yearned for hope, who yearned for a caring touch, received it from the hand of the King of Kings, the Creator of ocean, earth, and sky. Don't forget that you are stronger than you think. Your Heavenly Father, the Lord and Master of the universe, is your Creator. When I think of it, it makes my heart leap for joy. Our spirits are eternal, and eternal spirits have immeasurable capacity! Our Father in Heaven does not wish us to cower.

He does not want us to wallow in our misery. He expects us to square our shoulders, roll up our sleeves, and overcome our challenges. As we overcome adversity in our lives, we will become stronger. Then we will be better able to help others—those who are working, in their turn, to find that safe harbor from the storms that rage about them. When we feel tossed by the storms of life and when the waves rise and the winds howl, on these occasions it would be natural for us to cry in our hearts, “Master, carest thou not that I perish?” When these times come, think back upon that day when the Savior awakened in the stern of the ship, rose up and rebuked the storm. “Peace, be still,” He said. At times we may be tempted to think the Savior is oblivious to our trials. In fact, the reverse is true; it is we who need to be awakened in our hearts to His teachings. Let us use our ingenuity, our strength, and our might to resolve our challenges. Lets do all we can do and then leave the rest to the Lord.

In our own storms in life the Savior is our solace and our sanctuary. If we seek peace, we must come unto Him. He Himself spoke this eternal truth when He said, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” When our souls are anchored in the safe harbor of the Savior, we can proclaim as did Paul: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” -2 Corinthians 4:8

Draw close to the Lord Jesus Christ. Be of good cheer.
Keep the faith. Doubt not. The storms will one day be stilled.

BREAK ME OFF A PIECE OF THAT KIT-KAT BAR!

Gimme a break! Gimme a break! Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar!

The other day I was uploading some images onto my laptop of...lets just called her "E" from now on okay?
I was uploading some images of E. As I was putting all the pictures into the folder, I came across these pictures I took awhile back when I taught a lesson "I Can Prepare For Baptism" in Primary. I made these for the kids in my class and got the idea HERE. I thought it would be a great reminder for them and I know that they all love chocolate..who doesn't right!?!? I love having the opportunity to teach them. They have such a strong desire to learn about God and Jesus Christ. They make me want to be better. They are such an example to me and I love each and every single one of them dearly.

I AM A MORMON MONDAY: MEET VALERIE

About me:
My name is Valerie and I blog at A Little Life Journal

My blog is really just a family blog although it has taken some unexpected twists and turns since it began. We live in a small cottage by the sea on the East Coast of Scotland, and despite the weather, we love it here.

What is hope and what do you hope for?
Hope is the surety that everything is working out exactly the way it is meant to. Feeling hopeless is feeling cast adrift with no course and no purpose. I hope for peace and happiness, which sounds like a cliche, but in the end its what my heart desires for myself and for everyone I care about.

How I live my faith:
I live my faith with love. Loving everyone does not come naturally to me (most of us?),  but its how our Savior lived His life and He is my Teacher. Love can be divided endlessly, love can build bridges, and move mountains and change lives forever. I try to live my life full of love. “Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.”

Thank You for including me in Mormon Monday Kimberly!

JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING....

I testify to you that there is s God! He is real and personal and loving. He is also just. The fact that we can see, hear, and experience, all testifies of this fact that He is real and that He has a wondrous plan that allows us to partake of His goodness and creation all around us every day. I challenge you to try and find God in everywhere you look and in everyone you meet.

GILBERT ARIZONA TEMPLE.

A Commandment with Blessings

From the days of the Old Testament, the Lord has commanded His people to build temples-sacred structures where He could teach, guide, and bless them. For example, the Lord told the Israelites to build a portable tabernacle that would be their temple while they traveled in the wilderness (see Exodus 26-2740:35). Additional Old Testament references to temples are found in 2 Chronicles 5:1-147:1-2 (Temple of Solomon) and Ezra 3:1-13; 6:3(Temple of Zerubbabel).
Israelite Ark of the Covenant

Portable Tabernacle

The Lord told the Israelites to build a portable tabernacle that would be their temple while they traveled in the wilderness  (see Exodus 26-27:40:35).

When Jesus Christ was on the earth, the only existing temple was known as the Temple of Herod. Jesus was often found in this temple (see, for example, Luke 2:40-49Matthew 21:10-14).
After the rejection and deaths of Jesus's Apostles, there were no temples on the earth for many centuries. When the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored in the early 1800s, the Lord again commanded His people to build temples (see D&C 88:119; see also section 95). The earliest temples of the restored Church were built in Ohio, Illinois, and eventually in Utah. Today, the Church has 140 operating temples around the world. Regardless of the place or time period, temples are the most sacred place on earth-a place where earth and heaven meet and where we feel close to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

I Am a Mormon Monday: Meet Alexa

I'm Alexa from Written in The Midst! I’m a 20 year old life wanderer who loves to write about my random occurrences of life and little happenings. I'm a still trying to find my place in this big ‘ole world, but I love the adventure of it! I love all things random and crazy. I’m a lover of pictures and letters, capturing the best moments of my life. I love to write, and my blog is my go-to place for that. I love life, and I love to share mine with people! So, let’s be friends, because I would love that too!

What is hope, and what do you hope for?

To me, hope is an incandescent feeling of the soul. A feeling of trust, courage, desire, and a longing for everlasting happiness; anticipating for good through faith. I love the way Elder Steven E. Snow describes it as "an emotion which brings richness to our everyday lives." Our hearts are always full of hope, and I think that's a beautiful thing. When we hope, we begin a journey into a lifetime of good works. I hope for success, adventure, and meaning; for a future filled with love, opportunities to serve and to learn, and for others to experience the greatest happiness. Along with all the silly things like hoping to one day travel the world and ride in a hot air balloon ;)

How do I live my faith?

I live my faith through love. I consider my huge heart a gift, and I strive to use it in any possible way I can. I believe that love can change the world, and I like to think that I'm helping the world through open arms. I want people around me to feel the love that our sweet Savior has for them, and we can help them feel that by loving. I try to set an example in the way I talk, dress, and act, and hope that it affects somebody in some way. I'm not afraid to stand up for my beliefs and to share them with others. I look for the positive in all things, because I know that trials are blessings, and I strive to help people see that. I am extremely grateful for this church and have the deepest love for the gospel and my sweet Savior! I can’t even begin to imagine my life without it.

Thank you so much for having me Kimberly!
