Motherhood

Motherhood is more than just a stage-its a lifelong gift and calling from God. With it He gives us hearts that love more deeply, hands that serve tirelessly, and vision to see His blossoming image in the precious entrusted to our care.

Thoughts For Thursday-Getting to Know God

There was a time in my life when I struggled with all types of fears and insecurities, constantly worried about the future, my job, my family, money, and what my purpose in life really was. Needless to say, I wasn't enjoying my life. I was miserable.

However, over time, the Lord helped me to change…and He helped me understand an important key to truly enjoying life. It all begins with what the apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:10…something I believe we should all pray regularly…

"That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being made comfortable unto His death"

I know that when we get to know God—really know Him—it fills us with hope and confidence because we realize He’s greater than any situation we will ever encounter. Understanding God’s character and incredible love for us allows us to relax and trust Him in ever single area of our lives.
I have found that we can learn so much about the Lord by examining His many names found in the Bible. Each one reveals such a unique aspect of His character along with a very specific promise for our lives.

The Bible says He is Jehovah Jireh, which means “Your Provider.” He’s Jehovah Rapha, “Your Healer,” and Jehovah Shalom, “Your Peace.”

The Lord is also referred to as Jehovah Nissi, “The Lord Our Banner.” This means He is our “victory”: We can expect God to help us win our battles over sin, addictive habits, pain from the past, and anything else that stands in the way of His wonderful plan for our lives.

It is Satan that wants us to think about all the things we can’t do. He wants us to compare ourselves to others and focus on our weaknesses. However, when the Lord looks at us, He sees our ultimate potential! We can do anything through Him. He wants us to focus on how much we can do; He wants us to lean on His strength and ability to do the great things He has planned for us.

Maybe right now the Lord is asking you to step out in an area that seems impossible, or you’re facing an issue that seems way too big to handle. Step out in faith, trust in Him and let Him handle it. He always knows what's best for us better than we know what is best for ourselves.

Whatever it may be, I want you to know that you’re in a great place for a miracle and abundant blessings. The God of all the universe is on your side, and He never loses a battle!

I encourage you to get to know God more and more each day. Read and study your scriptures. Talk to the Lord like He’s your best friend and ask Him to reveal His love and character to you in a greater way.

Because when you get to know Him—really know Him—it releases new hope and confidence in the One who can change every single area of your life.

Bump Style: Black and White Damask Print Dress

Hello there! Thanks for stopping by to this little space of mine. I am (finally) getting back to blogging and it feels pretty great. Today I have to share this fantastic dress with you. Not only is this one of the dresses from my online boutique (Sassy Sweet Modesty), but even more so, I jumped up and down when I was actually able to squeeze this cute big belly of mine into a size medium. Wahoo!

I love everything about this dress. The print, the cut, the zipper all the way up the back, the 3/4 length sleeves, and the length of the dress. It's modest, chic, fashionable and I think it accentuates my baby bump perfectly.

I Am a Mormon Monday

My name is Madeline & I am married to my Canadian sweetheart Tyler! I started my blogMr. & Mrs. Vance, to document all of the exciting adventures with my husband during these first few beautiful years of marriage. (It’s not all rainbows and roses though) I didn't know if I would stick with it or not, but I have ended up just LOVING to blog! It’s my little outlet and I love the friends I have made.

What is hope and what do you hope for?
I like to think that hope is similar to faith. Hope is a feeling of trust and the desire for a particular outcome. My hopes are simple: I hope to better myself in this crazy life, I hope to be a mom, I hope to spend my life serving, I hope for years ahead full of laughter, family trips as well as spending it by my husband’s side. I hope to have a life revolved around the gospel, my family, and love.

How do you live your faith?
I think the best way that anyone can live their faith is by example. Live your faith by the way you walk, talk and dress. Speak kindly of others, do good. Invite others to feel the same joy you do. These are all parts of living by faith. I work everyday on living by faith, and not by fear. Above all, I live my faith through love.

I also want to say thank you to the beautiful Kimberly for asking me to be featured on her lovely blog! What a great opportunity this was, thanks again!

XOXO,
Madeline

Winter Sports to Enjoy With Your Kids

Gone are the days of playing soccer in the park or a pickup game of basketball in the driveway. Now the fields and courts are covered in ice and snow, giving way to a whole new set of sports and activities. Whether your family is young, the kids are getting a little older or somewhere in between, there are many ways you can get into winter sports and have the whole family participate.

Here is a list of activities to incorporate into your winter family fun!

Note: As you go about getting the family involved, make sure each family member is performing to their age and ability level so everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

Sledding

If you do not consider sledding a sport, then you have not been sledding in a while. Not only do you get an excellent workout walking up those hills following each time you sled down, but you can make games out of sledding. Whether you let the older children build small “jumps” to see who can do the coolest trick or smooth out a great course to make sure your sled goes as far as possible, creating the perfect sledding hill takes a lot of work and creativity. For younger children, pick smaller hills and make sure they are accompanied by an adult or older sibling to keep them safe.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages. If they can walk, they can start to skate. Start off slowly to help everyone be safe, but as your children get older, encourage them to try fun ways to mix it up like spinning or skating backwards. Because ice skating can be done year round at an indoor ice skating rink, encourage your children to sign up for lessons if it is something they enjoy. This may become a sport that gets them excited for the next round of the Winter Olympic Games!

Ice Hockey

After your kids have been ice skating for a couple of years and are a little older, you might consider playing a little bit of ice hockey. Find a rink or consider creating one in your own backyard. Divide the family up into teams and play an ice hockey tournament! This might be more fun and challenging for those kids in the family that have some extra energy or like sports that can be a little more aggressive. If there are younger children or members of the family who would rather not play, they can still participate by cheering on each team!

Skiing/Snowboarding

If you live close to a mountain resort, consider taking the family up the mountain for a day of shredding the powder. Consider putting your children in half day lessons to give them a chance for formal instruction and you a chance to ski or board in places their ability may not allow quite yet. Then spend the other half of the day with the kids showing you what they learned. Many resorts will take children as young as four for group lessons and even younger for private lessons, so you don’t have to wait too long to have a great family day on the slopes.

Snowshoeing

Does your family enjoy hiking and spending time in nature during the summertime? Well lucky for you, snowshoeing allows you to experience those beautiful trails in the winter as well. Snowshoes come in smaller sizes for younger children and the very youngest can be carried by the adults. Consider renting snowshoes for younger children if you would rather not invest in smaller snowshoes as the kids continue to grow.
Additional Tips

As with any sport played by children and adults alike, there is always the potential for injury. Do what you can to prevent a sports related injury but if you find yourself looking for treatment, make sure you do your research. There are many non-surgical options available now to treat pain.

Many dread the coming of winter, but there are many fun activities available for your family to participate in together. Look for ways to get the whole family involved and don’t be afraid to learn something new so you can keep up with your kids!
