JUMP AROUND.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the TKO Jump Rope. Since I was a little girl, I have always loved to jump rope. Then it was for fun, now its to work those pounds off!

On the weekends, if the weather is nice, I love a good bike ride or for something quicker but still challenging and fun, like jump roping. Did you know that only 15 minutes will burn 170 calories??

What I love most about this jump rope is the soft grip handles and that it doesn't tangle.

Get yours here!

6 Tips For Healthy Parenting

Every parent wants their child to be happy and healthy. A healthy childhood can set the stage for a healthy adult life. No loving parent would intentionally create an unhealthy environment for their children. Unfortunately, the daily demands of life often subtle obstacles that keep you from fully investing in your child’s health. But this doesn’t mean you have to take any drastic measures to get your kid back on the right track. It’s often the small and simple things that contribute most to a brighter future. Here are 9 tips to help you imprint a tradition of healthy living in the minds of your impressionable children and put them on the path to a healthy life.

1. Plan Healthy Meals and Include Your Children in the Process
Meal planning can be pretty impromptu and off-the-cuff for the modern American family. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does make families more prone to throwing together cheap meals last minute or getting fast food without considering nutritional value. Take some time at the beginning of each week to plan out your family meals for the week and include your children in the process. Explain to them why you choose certain foods over others, the nutritional value of the different meals you select, and encourage them to participate in planning out healthy meals in the future. Doing so can help a child develop a habit of being health conscious eaters at an early age.

2. Avoid the “Clean your Plate” Routine
“You don’t get to leave the table until you’ve cleaned your plate”. This phrase, or something like it, has been the gold standard of dinner philosophies for generations of American families. Chances are, it’s how your parents got you to eat all of your food at dinner. Many pediatricians and health professionals argue that it’s outdated. While it’s important to teach your children to be polite and grateful for what is given to them, forcing them to finish every morsel of food on their plate isn’t necessarily the most healthy option for them. Before you urge your children to clean their plates completely, ask yourself the following questions: Have they been given healthy proportions of food? What have you served them, and what elements of the meal are contributing to growth, health, and a well-rounded diet? Encourage your child to eat based on these questions instead of putting a plate of food in front of them and telling them to clean it up.

3. Cook with Healthier Oils
Many potentially healthy meals are made considerably less healthy when you cook them with butter or vegetable oil. Re-evaluate what you are cooking with and consider substituting butter with canola or olive oil.

4. Encourage Healthy Snacking
Unhealthy snacks can throw a huge wrench in the progress of your child’s eating habits. Healthy snacks, however, can be an invaluable resource for daily nutrition and energy. Be extra cautious about what your children are snacking on and seek out healthy, alternative snacking resources. Naturebox is a great way to order healthy snacking for your kids, and they deliver custom snacks right to your door. There’s also nothing wrong with encouraging your kids to eat carrots, fruit, and other tried and true healthy snack options.

5. Pack a Lunch That’s Healthy for Your Child’s Teeth
In a recent blog post, The Kids’ Dentist noted that the food that lingers in a child’s mouth after lunch can be especially damaging to their dental health. They then provide a list of foods that parents should pack in their child’s lunch in order to contribute to longer lasting dental health and improved dental hygiene. Cheese and other dairy products, for example, help to acid erosion, while the natural fats in nuts protect against bacteria.

6. Early to Bed, Early to Rise
One of the simplest ways to help your children have a healthier lifestyle is through a well-mitigated sleep schedule. Studies continue to show that a healthy sleep schedule including an early bedtime and early wake time makes for a healthier, happier person, no matter what their age. Childhood years are an especially important time to keep a healthy sleep schedule for healthy growth, mood, and neural development.

Families Can Be Together Forever

Last night was one I will always remember and will never forget. This sweet girl got to go to the Temple. We asked her how she felt after we left and she said "I felt so special and very beautiful!" I love this Gospel so much. I love my Savior and my Heavenly Father. I love having the knowledge that families can be together for time and all eternity. What a wonderful blessing that is! We are so happy that she is part of our family and we know that Heavenly Father hand picked her just for us!

10 Ways to Make Your Home More Guest Friendly

Having guests in your home for any length of time is often nerve wracking, whether it’s for 10 minutes or for 10 days. Before you find yourself catapulted into a frenzy of worries and stress, take a few minutes and read over these helpful tips. As you keep these 10 actions in mind, you can forget about making every little detail perfect and focus on the things that will matter most to your guests instead:

1. Copy your favorite host/hostess. Think back on all of the people you have visited. Which visits were your favorite? What did the host or hostess do that made you feel so comfortable? What stands out in your mind as the most memorable part of your visit? Whatever makes the top of your list is a great place to start when considering how to make your home more comfortable for your guests.

2. Make sure the bathroom is stocked with toilet paper. Few things are worse than running out of toilet paper at someone else’s home. You can easily prevent this uncomfortable situation by checking the toilet paper in the bathroom before guests arrive and always stocking an extra roll or two in an easy to find spot inside the bathroom.

3. Include some house tips in your welcome speech. When your guests first arrive, you should offer a warm welcome and give them a quick rundown on what to expect during their time in your home. This may be as simple as asking them to remove their shoes upon entry and showing them where to find the bathroom. For overnight or multiple night guests, you can include more information that will be helpful like what time the automatic sprinklers turn on at night, how to handle your playful puppy, where to park, etc.

4. Make the trash can accessible. While you may love hiding your trash can away out of site, this can be problematic for guests. No guest wants to rummage through your home looking for a place to deposit their trash. If you hate the idea of having a trash can out in the open, politely show your guests where to find the most accessible trash can in your home when they first arrive. For overnight guests, leave a few extra empty trash bags in their room. They can use these bags for their dirty laundry, extra trash, etc.

5. Always have cold beverages and simple snacks on hand. Get in the habit of keeping cold beverages stocked in your refrigerator. Even a pitcher of cold water will do if family members remember to refill it. Individual water bottles, juice bottles, cans of soda, and juice boxes are also good options if your family drinks them any way. The key is to stock beverages your family normally drinks; however, by keeping up on your stock you will always have something to offer a guest, even when they arrive unannounced. The same is true for snacks. Keeping a revolving stock of simple snacks in your home will benefit your own family, as well as your guests. Try to focus on foods that are easy to eat and will likely appeal to most of your guests.

6. Offer comfortable seating. While your formal “sitting room” may be the most put together room in the house, this may not be the most comfortable place for visiting guests. If another room in your home is more conducive to relaxing and conversing, invite guests to join you in another room. Depending on the time of year, the most comfortable seating may even be outside. If you don’t have enough seats for everyone, bring in extra chairs or even pillows that guests can use to sit on the floor. If you are expecting overnight guests, read over these tips for planning sleeping accommodations.

7. Inform your guests right away of any pending obligations. Your normal routine may interfere with a visit, especially when guests drop by unexpectedly. If you have an obligation that requires you to leave your home at any time during the stay of your guests, politely notify them of any conflict in your schedule upfront.

8. Fill a basket will small toiletry items for overnight guests. This small gesture will be greatly appreciated as your guests won’t have to stress about asking you to borrow something they forgot. You can use small samples you have collected from your own travels, or purchase small travel size items for $1 or less per item.

Consider the following items:

  • toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • soap
  • shampoo and conditioner
  • disposable razors
  • shave gel or lotion
  • hand or body lotion
  • deodorant
  • hand sanitizer
  • wet wipes
  • tissues
  • feminine hygiene products (for female guests)
  • air freshening spray
  • stain removal wipes
  • gum or mints
  • small water bottles
  • simple snacks

9. Plug in nightlights in common areas. Sure your family members have probably mastered moving through your home in the dark, but your guests may not fare so well. Keep nightlights in the guestroom, bathroom, hallways, kitchen, and other common areas.

10. Relax and smile. Having guests in your home for any length of time can be stressful for you and for the entire family. Just remember to relax. When things don’t go as planned take a few deep breaths and go with the flow. And don’t forget to smile sincerely and frequently. Your relaxed attitude and warm and welcoming smile will go a long way in making all guests feel at home.

Aurorae: Microfiber Sport & Swim Towel

I recently had the opportunity to review the Aurorae Microfiber Sport & Swim Towel. This is such a great towel! It is absolutely perfect for pool and beach use. Not only is it huge (32"x68"), but it comes in eight fun colors and is priced right for what you get. The microfiber is nice and thick, so you feel like you're resting on a full body pillow instead of a paper-thin towel. In addition to offering superior comfort, the microfiber is also very absorbent, so whether you get a little sweaty while you're laying out in the sun or you come in from the ocean or pool dripping wet, the towel will absorb the excess liquid and dry off quickly.

I highly recommend this towel. Check out what else Aurorae has HERE
