Thoughts For Thursday-Getting to Know God

There was a time in my life when I struggled with all types of fears and insecurities, constantly worried about the future, my job, my family, money, and what my purpose in life really was. Needless to say, I wasn't enjoying my life. I was miserable.

However, over time, the Lord helped me to change…and He helped me understand an important key to truly enjoying life. It all begins with what the apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:10…something I believe we should all pray regularly…

"That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being made comfortable unto His death"

I know that when we get to know God—really know Him—it fills us with hope and confidence because we realize He’s greater than any situation we will ever encounter. Understanding God’s character and incredible love for us allows us to relax and trust Him in ever single area of our lives.
I have found that we can learn so much about the Lord by examining His many names found in the Bible. Each one reveals such a unique aspect of His character along with a very specific promise for our lives.

The Bible says He is Jehovah Jireh, which means “Your Provider.” He’s Jehovah Rapha, “Your Healer,” and Jehovah Shalom, “Your Peace.”

The Lord is also referred to as Jehovah Nissi, “The Lord Our Banner.” This means He is our “victory”: We can expect God to help us win our battles over sin, addictive habits, pain from the past, and anything else that stands in the way of His wonderful plan for our lives.

It is Satan that wants us to think about all the things we can’t do. He wants us to compare ourselves to others and focus on our weaknesses. However, when the Lord looks at us, He sees our ultimate potential! We can do anything through Him. He wants us to focus on how much we can do; He wants us to lean on His strength and ability to do the great things He has planned for us.

Maybe right now the Lord is asking you to step out in an area that seems impossible, or you’re facing an issue that seems way too big to handle. Step out in faith, trust in Him and let Him handle it. He always knows what's best for us better than we know what is best for ourselves.

Whatever it may be, I want you to know that you’re in a great place for a miracle and abundant blessings. The God of all the universe is on your side, and He never loses a battle!

I encourage you to get to know God more and more each day. Read and study your scriptures. Talk to the Lord like He’s your best friend and ask Him to reveal His love and character to you in a greater way.

Because when you get to know Him—really know Him—it releases new hope and confidence in the One who can change every single area of your life.

Some Thoughts For Thursday.

My heart is so full with joy this morning and would love to share my thoughts with you.

On my way to work this morning, I was thinking about life.
My life then and my life now. Wow! What a change!
Seriously...like a complete 360!

For a long time, before I came to know God, there was so much turmoil in my life.

Looking back, it really saddens me to think about all the years I wasted living that way.

I spent most of my time partying with friends on the weekends and even sometimes during the week.
My friends and I would drink, laugh, dance, play games and joke around. At the time I thought "Wow...life is good!" But what it? Was I really loving my life?

No...I wasn't. I was just going through the motions day after day after day.

My daily life ended up feeling like it was on repeat
and as each day passed there was nothing to look foward to. I felt so lost.

Looking back I was using the alcohol to cover up all of my struggles and problems I was facing.

Of course the nights when I was drinking, I forgot about my trials for the night.
But you know what??
The next morning when I would open my eyes
with an upset stomach and a headache....
my problems and the heartache was still there.
That's no way to live. I wasn't truly happy.
I never had peace or even knew what it felt like to have peace.

God has brought me through so much and I know that everything that
happens in my life is for a purpose and has a reasoning. It's all apart of His perfect plan.

I am grateful for the trials, struggles and heartache that I faced then, because it brought me
to come to know God and my Savior and has shaped and formed me into the
daughter of God that I am today.

What have you overcome?
What has God brought you through?

Someone Special

I have been counting down the days and the day is finally here!
My Dad will landing in Arizona in just a couple of hours.
I cannot wait to see him and give him a BIG giant hug.

My parents have been divorced since I was a Junior in High School.
The news came as a complete shock to both my brother and I as our
family was very close. It was hard at first....really hard. At that
time in my life I never knew God so I had no one to really turn to
and didn't know how to heal my broken and confused heart.

I think the hardest part throughout all of it,
is having one parent here and the other in another state (California)
My Mom moved here a little over a year ago after much praying and fasting.
Josh and I are now working on getting my Dad here also (God willing)
I feel so blessed that I now have a relationship with God. That I don't have to
figure things out on my own. That He takes my sorrows and turn them into joy.
I know that He hears and answers prayers...even the unspoken ones.
I know that God is faithful and I know that He has a plan for everything which
brings me comfort, hope and peace.
.....................................................................................................................................................
Scripture of the Day (my favorite):
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
-Proverbs 3:5-6

This morning I got an email notification from Penzu (an online journal website) notifying me that I haven't wrote an entry in awhile.

I acutally switched from writing an online journal to actually writing in a journal I bought at a bookstore.

Reading this entry made me realize just how important it is to record our thoughts as often as we can.

Looking back on this trial I was going to seemed so difficult at the time and now looking back on my thoughts makes me so grateful for that trial because it made me grow, made me even stronger and I was able to see the hand of the Lord so much during this time.

I would like to share my journal entry with you.....

I work at Clark Hill which is a law firm here in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I have been working there for a little over a year now. I love it! Seriously the BEST job ever. About 4 months back, I was given the opportunity to get promoted to a "billing specialist" position. They were looking for someone who has a least 5 years experience as a billing specialist in a law firm setting. I had no experience whatsoever. None. I was shocked when they considered me for the position as they needed someone with a college degree and experience. Nonetheless I thought it over and prayed about it.  I was a little hesitant because the position I was currently in I LOVED and thought what happens if I leave this position and don't like the billing position? I just decided to take the chance and take the leap and go for it. What did I have to lose? Plus...it was a big pay increase so that was very tempting of course. Tabitha, a co-worker and friend took over my old position and would be leaving at the end of September to have her baby boy. So things were set in place.

The next day I went in and told my boss I wanted to pursue the position. After committing to the job, I had a lot of mixed feelings. I kept thinking to myself "I hope I made the right decision"

Days passed and I was going into work every day feeling stressed, overwhelmed and very anxious. There were days I would come home crying and kneel by my bedside pouring my heart out to my Heavenly Father asking for his guidance, love and wondering if I made the right decision.

One day my boss informed me that they wanted me to fly back to Detroit for round two of training. My heart sunk and I was tongue-tied. I didn't know what to say at the moment so I told myself to go home think and pray about it. I knew I needed to make a decision and fast especially if they were going to make arrangements to fly me back out there. I needed to let my boss know exactly how I felt before things got worse.

This morning I woke up and asked Heavenly Father to help guide me throughout my day today and to help me to make the right decision. Earlier in the morning I had to get an approval from my boss on some markdowns for a bill. I  had to go into his office anyways so I figured I would just open up and be honest with him about how I felt. I was so nervous and there was a huge pit in my stomach. How do you deal with going into something that you might enjoy and then hate it? It was very hard but I knew I needed to just take action and do what I felt was right for me.

Our meeting went better than I could have ever expected. God was right by my side the entire time. I could feel Him. We had a great conversation and he expressed to me that my old position is always mine until he fills it with someone full time. He told me that he just wanted me to be happy and find a position that I enjoy doing and if that was my old position than he would move me back once Tabitha leaves. He was so understanding and so caring. He told me he would start making plans to get me moved back and was really happy that I came to him with honesty. How perfect did all of this work out?!
Leaving the meeting, my heart was smiling and I felt God's love and His goodness.

Sometimes God will put us in situations to bless someone else. In this case He used me working in this position to bless Tabitha with extra income before the baby came and He used it to also bless us with extra income to pay off some bills we had (which we had also been praying about asking God to help us find ways to pay down our debt to become debt free before buying our first home and starting a family)

God is so good and He is so faithful with every request that we send up His way. Sometimes its so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know with all my heart and soul that if you press forward with all of your faith in Him, He will bring it to pass and pour blessings down upon you.

Do you write in a journal?
If so, why do you think recording your thoughts is important?
