SPA WATER RECIPE: STRAWBERRY, CUCUMBER AND MINT

Drink eight glasses of water a day?!? I don't know about you, but eight glasses is such a struggle for me. I am lucky if I drink three glasses a day! I was flipping through the pages of Redbook Magazine the other night and saw this fun recipe for Spa Water. It looked so refreshing, healthy and delicious! I did some searching on Pinterest and there are so many Spa Water combos to choose from so you can flavor your water with whatever your heart desires. You can do blueberries, ginger, rosemary, thyme, sliced green apple, orange slices, sliced melon/watermelon, pomegranate rubies, fresh cherries, sliced nectarines/plums, berries, etc. Not only does it make me happy to see some color happening in my cup, but the flavor lasts all day and provides me the right kind of sugars! I have always loved the refreshing taste of freshly cut fruits in my ice cold water, it always brings me that spa feeling. Spa water is also a great idea to use for showers, parties, events etc. in a large glass dispenser. So grab a glass, pour some color into your cup... sit back and enjoy! Cheers!

Ingredients:

*1 cup of sliced strawberries
*1 cup of sliced cucumbers
*5 mint leaves
*Water (of course!)

Directions:

Pour 6 cups of water into a pitcher. Drop in 1 cup of sliced strawberries, 1 cup of sliced cucumbers and a few mint leaves. Mix well. Place in fridge overnight and enjoy the next day!

Food Storage

Watching the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has been heart-wrenching to me.
My heart and my prayers go out to all of them.
I feel heartache as I watch people scurrying around trying to find food,
shelter, power, water, safety, and warmth.
We have seen many different natural disasters happen similar to this one.
We watch and listen as our hearts ache and feel for these people and what they are facing.
It made me really think and this time it was a huge wake up call for my Husband and I.
What would we do if this happened to us?
Would we be prepared?
We have started a "small" food storage and we purchase items in bulk ever so often that will last for a
long time, but nothing that would be able to last us for days if a huge natural disaster hit.
Josh and I talked last night and both agreed that we needed to become more diligent at building our food storage and setting aside items that would be helpful and necessary in case something happens.
"Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to ‘prepare every needful thing (D&C 109:8) so that, should adversity come, we will be able to care for ourselves and help our neighbors"
We know that hard times are here and even harder times are eventually going to come.
In preparing for ourselves and our families now, we can have peace
knowing that when disaster does strike we will have all everything we need to get through it together.

Here are some items to consider having on hand in case a disaster strikes:

Longer-term supply of basic food items

Medication and first aid supplies

Clothing and bedding

Important documents

Ways to communicate with family following a disaster

Three-month supply of food that is part of your normal daily diet

**Build a small supply of food that is part of your normal, daily diet. One way to do this is to purchase a few extra items each week to build a one-week supply of food. Then you can gradually increase your supply until it is sufficient for three months. These items should be rotated regularly to avoid spoilage.
